Listened to a very entertaining lecture on sea slugs last night here. Heard lots of details about their racy sex lives and saw many beautiful pics and movies of them.

Constantly amazed by the colors and creatures that live here with us.

We enjoyed the serenading of Fol Chen after the lecture. They wrote two songs about slugs just for the occasion!

double dutch

dutch girldutch girl string
One of my grandmothers was part dutch. My mom built a parade float before I was born that had a windmill on it. She dressed my brothers and sisters up as little dutch farmers to ride on the float and many years later I found their wooden shoes in the attic. They were very uncomfortable, but I wore them anyway.

I painted the background of this five years ago and added the figure a few days ago. I built the background up with a thick molding paste and I was hoping to add beeswax to the figure, but found out that it can't be layered on acrylic. It looks like Golden has a lot of gels -- maybe something will be similar. If anyone has a suggestion for a beeswax-like coating for acrylic, I'd love to know. RF Paints has a good forum on all things encaustic.

This giant baby red bird is available in my shop. He's approx 22 inches wide x 20 inches tall. Gigantic red happy softness!

Some new sketches for a series of paintings I'm working on.
Looking forward to being part of this
collaboration.

hello there

Many new things are happening. Starting this journal seems like a great way to celebrate and collect all the new things to come.

I'm very excited to be teaching an amigurumi class at this gallery. We'll be making this little bat:
